New York - Apple (NASD: AAPL) and Verizon (NYSE: VZ) have been in "high-level" talks for several months on developing an iPhone compatible with the carrier's CDMA wireless network, USA Today reported, citing "people familiar with the situation." To date, Apple has only made deals with AT&T and other carriers who operate on GSM, a different network standard, to carry the iPhone.

AT&T has the exclusive carrier rights for the iPhone in the U.S. until 2010.

Verizon counts some 80 million customers in the U.S., and is co-owned by Vodafone (NYSE: VOD), which sells the iPhone in Europe.

If you're among the social media initiated, chances are you are Googling yourself more than once a day. In fact, you probably have Google alerts set up with your own name to notify you (and your ego) whenever anyone mentions you. It's ok, you can admit it. As many of us build our digital profiles and publish content online, seeing who else is talking about us has become more than a voyeuristic thrill ... there is a personal ROI that is rapidly emerging, and it relates to your personal brand. I have lots of thoughts about personal branding, including something that I'm planning to share very soon which will hopefully be quite useful for any of you trying to build your personal brand.

In the meantime, you might want to check out a site called Addictomatic that I was just referred to by Dave at Rollyo - a site from several years ago that offered the then-unique ability to "roll your own search engine" based on offering search within a selected subset of sites that you could create. Addictomatic is a relatively simple meta search that returns results on a set query from multiple online services. It essentially pulls lots of services through widgets together on the same page - and is not a technically difficult solution ... but I like the way they have positioned it as sort of the super charged personal search. If you want to see what the real buzz is about you, visit the site and type in your name to see who's talking about you on Twitter, videos and photos tagged with your name, who's bookmarked your content on del.icio.us and lots more. It's ultimate ego search for the ultimate egomaniacs ... bloggers.

Peace Conference in South Africa Is Canceled

JOHANNESBURG — Organizers of a peace conference that was to have been attended by five Nobel Peace Prize winners in Johannesburg said Tuesday that they had canceled the conference after the South African government denied entry to the Dalai Lama, Tibet’s spiritual leader and one of the Nobel laureates.

Two of South Africa’s Nobel winners,Desmond Tutu, the retired Anglican archbishop, and former President F. W. de Klerk, condemned the government for giving in to pressure from China to block the Dalai Lama’s entry and said they would refuse to participate in the conference this Friday if he was not there. The executive director of the Norwegian Nobel Committee, Geir Lundestad, also said he would stay away.

The government said Monday that the Dalai Lama would not be allowed to come to South Africa to attend the conference, meant to promote the 2010 World Cup, because his presence would have distracted attention from South Africa and drawn it instead to the contentious debate over the status of Tibet.

Thabo Masebe, a government spokesman, said that the Tibetan leader’s presence “would not be in South Africa’s best interests.”

A statement by the organizers on Tuesday said the participants had been told that “the only purpose of their visit to South Africa would be for the purposes of participation in the conference and not any other public engagements, as these could take away from the purpose for which the conference was intended.”

Two of South Africa's Nobel peace prize winners, Archbishop Desmond Tutu and FW de Klerk, have pulled out of a Johannesburg conference to fight racism after what they branded as Pretoria's "disgraceful" decision to ban the Dalai Lama from attending following Chinese pressure.

The Nobel peace prize committee also said it would boycott this Friday's conference, which is dedicated to tackling racism ahead of the 2010 World Cup.

The row threatens to draw in Nelson Mandela, who, with his fellow South African laureates, invited the Tibetan spiritual leader, and further embarrasses South Africa, which has been accused of squandering its moral authority since ending apartheid by blocking UN security council moves to pressure rogue governments in Burma and Zimbabwe.

Tutu, who won the prize for his resistance to white rule, told Johannesburg's Sunday Independent newspaper he will not attend the conference to discuss how to use the World Cup preparations to combat racism and xenophobia if the Tibetan spiritual leader is not present.

"If His Holiness's visa is refused, then I won't take part in the coming 2010 World Cup-related peace conference. I will condemn [the] government's behaviour as disgraceful, in line with our country's abysmal record at the United Nations security council, a total betrayal of our struggle's history," he said.

"We are shamelessly succumbing to Chinese pressure. I feel deeply distressed and ashamed."

The FW de Klerk Foundation, established by South Africa's last white president, said it would also pull out of the conference, albeit reluctantly.

"South Africa is a sovereign constitutional democracy and should not allow other countries to dictate to it regarding who it should and should not admit to its territory," the foundation said in a statement.

"Mr De Klerk has been in touch with Archbishop Tutu and identifies himself with the views that he has expressed with regard to the refusal of the South African government to grant a visa to the Dalai Lama."

The Norwegian Nobel peace prize committee also condemned the South African decision.

"It is impossible for us to be part of an event where one of the main participants is not able to enter the country," said Geir Lundestad, the committee's secretary.

The Tibetan government in exile in India today blamed "intense pressure" from China, which has become one of South Africa's largest trading partners. The claim was apparently confirmed by the Chinese embassy in Pretoria, where the minister counsellor, Dai Bing, was quoted as telling the South African media that his government had warned that allowing the Tibetan spiritual leader to attend the conference would damage bilateral relations.

But the South African government denied its decision had anything to do with Beijing. It said the Dalai Lama had been refused a visa because his presence would draw attention away from the World Cup preparations.

Thabo Masebe, the spokesman for the president, Kgalema Motlanthe, said the conference organisers had not consulted the government before inviting the Tibetan leader.

"We in the South African government have not invited the Dalai Lama to visit South Africa, because it would not be in the interests of South Africa," he said. "The attention of the world is on South Africa because of it being the host country for the 2010 World Cup, and we wouldn't want anything to distract from that."

Pretoria has shied away from the Tibetan leader before. Ten years ago, South Africa's then president, Thabo Mbeki, said he was too busy for a one-to-one meeting with the Dalai Lama.

The actors Morgan Freeman, who is to play Mandela in a new film, and Charlize Theron, a South African, are also due to attend the conference.

(`I come forward masked’), and she turns into an African, an
Indian, an Egyptian, a Russian, a Tibetan… Pointing to the

rituals and references. She crossbreeds, she hybrids, she
metamorphoses.
Her approach is a search of the truth: what is true, is what
is real. In accordance with Rimbaud, to her the individual
is multiple : “I is another”. The identity does not exist, the
identifications only are tangible.
Kimiko Yoshida changes and she wants to disappear into
some almost monochromic representations.
The face melts into the unit of color and the tribal object she
borrowed, a treasure from the past that is now preserved in a
museum, is revealed.
This technique evokes the Japanese tradition of the doran, a
white painting used by the geishas and the maïkos to erase
any characteristic of their face. On the contrary, in Occident,
the make-up is used to beautify, to call attention to oneself,
to hide the defects. The artist hopes to approach the concept
of the woman instead of the female ideal.
Everything is in the obliteration, the minimalism, the
detachment. Contrary to her contemporaries, she does not
look for appealing to pathos.
Changing mask infinitely, without geographical or temporal
consideration, she oscillates between figuration and
abstraction, showing the plurality of being as much aesthetic
as philosophical. I am not the one I show. I have to take the
risk to stand aside.
This purification which worries Kimiko Yoshida turns
meaningful when she entrusts “all that’s not me, that’s what
interest me”.

NORTHAMPTON, Mass.

One of the most satisfying concerts in recent memory was the Winterpills' CD release show at The Iron Horse back in October. The headliners were exquisite on their home turf, performing with verve every cut from their winning third release "Central Chambers," along with a smattering of old favorites served up with passion and just the right amount of playfulness.

But it was KaiserCartel's revelatory opening slot that made the show one of 2008's most rewarding. The Brooklyn-based couple, consisting of Courtney Kaiser and Ben Cartel, won over the crowd with their sublime harmonies, catchy songs, infectious onstage chemistry and musical versatility (he played drums and xylophone simultaneously, she used a hand-held milk frother on her xylophone). A perfect appetizer to the fulfilling Winterpills main course.

KaiserCartel's set was indeed a tasty surprise, though I had a notion that the full house was in store for a distinctive warmup while waiting on the line where I caught some buzz going around about the pair. Right next to me I overheard an exuberant young girl -- who looked to be about 11 -- gush that she couldn't wait to see her "music teacher play." After eavesdropping on her conversation, it became clear that she and her family had driven all the way up from New York City to see "Miss Kaiser" and her pal harmonize.

By the time their 40-minute set capped triumphantly with a

strolling serenade through the mesmerized audience, completely understood why that family made the long trek to Northampton.

And I wasn't alone. KaiserCartel were impressive enough to the folks that run the Iron Horse that they quickly booked them again -- this time to headline the venue on Saturday for a 10 p.m. show -- much to the delight of the duo.

"We are so excited to be playing there again," said Kaiser in an e-mail. Cartel added "It is right up there in our favorite venues list."

Last year was a fruitful one for the pair of singer-songwriters who released both a full CD ("March Forth") in June and an EP ("Okay & Other Things We Feel"). They also found a number of friendly venues and new fans as they zig-zagged their way across the country.

"We played a lot of shows ... but we like it that way," said Kaiser. "When we play live, we try to reach every person intimately through our music. We want something to change for them after the show has finished. We love touring and playing for as many people as possible."

Before they were KaiserCartel, Courtney and Ben were separately pursuing solo careers when they happened to meet at a gig in the Big Apple. "We met at the Knitting Factory show that our two separate bands were playing," recalled Cartel. "We struck up a friendship and started playing shows together. Our audiences liked the music so much, we continued. ... As we play and record, we always become more familiar and comfortable with what we are doing. Our chemistry was very natural from the start, and it is strongest when we are in performance mode."

KaiserCartel's goal in performing is as simple as it is lofty. "When we play live, we try to reach every person intimately through our music," said Kaiser. "We want something to change for them after the show has finished. This is why we end the set with the serenade. It is a wonderful thing to look in each person's eyes and sing to them so close. It breaks the audience and performer barrier, and helps us have a personal connection with our audience."

Then there are the people who work in miniature. Detailing a tiny moment of life, pre the oversharing of Facebook. But this passing moment, which appears to only be important to the singer, ends up being universal.

If you love Big Star's "Thirteen". If you're the kind of geek who doesn't care if everybody loves the music you do. If you don't mind if they do, but care more if you find one member of the opposite sex who does...you're the kind of listener who will appreciate "Listening to NRBQ".

Can't say that I'm the biggest fan of Al Anderson and the boys. At first the mention of the band's name in the song seemed a cheap shot. But the more the lyrics went by, the more I liked the song.

"We started dating during Watergate.
We would stay up late
_trashing Nixon.
_Showed you my collection of vinyl sides
_- LPs and 45s - _
my addiction."

That's what you want to do, share your addictions and be accepted for them. The cheerleaders would laugh and sneer. The football players would break a few records to show you who's boss. But could there be a special person out there who can see the value of your interests?

I know, another guy singing about driving around in his car. But wait, did you ever hear someone sing about his AFTER-MARKET stereo? Have you ever even heard that term in a song? In the early seventies it was hard to find a car with a factory-installed FM radio, never mind an 8-track. That's what you did, you went out and got a Craig, and got it installed, usually UNDER THE DASH!

Come on, if you're reading this you've had this experience. Maybe the girl didn't even realize it was a date, even though it was in your mind. You wanted to share the experience with her. It was a highlight of your life, that passes through your brain on a regular basis, years later.

"As Valentine's Day approaches, the musicians of KaiserCartel look forward to their homecoming show in Brooklyn - at Pete's Candy Store, the first place they ever played in New York.

"Our first show at the venue was great," says Benjamin Cartel, who is half of the endearing duo. "We had only been together for a few months and were still learning each other's songs. We kept going back there month after month. Eventually, it became so packed that they had to open up the doors so people could watch us from the other room."

Pete's Candy Store enabled KaiserCartel's music to flourish, but it also provided a setting in which Mr. Cartel and vocalist Courtney Kaiser quickly fell in love. Although both had initially pursued solo careers, they later crossed paths at a Manhattan venue and began performing together, forging a romantic bond in the process.

With Miss Kaiser's gorgeous, woozy voice and Mr. Cartel's inventive musicianship (a multitasker, he often plays drums and xylophone at the same time) the band found a loyal audience in New York. A full-length album, "March Forth," followed in June 2008, and subsequent tours across the country helped expand their New York fan club into a national following.

There's plenty of love to be found on "March Forth," whose title alludes both to the inaugural date of the musicians' relationship and their "onward and upward" mentality. Unlike many couple bands, however, KaiserCartel takes a universal approach to the emotion, emphasizing its effect on the public as well as the songwriters.

"Okay" pledges trust and acceptance of a partner's faults, while "Season Song" sings the praises of summertime with hand claps and whistled accompaniment.

In keeping with the album's communal appeal, KaiserCartel concludes most performances with an acoustic serenade. The members unplug their instruments and walk into the audience, armed with a guitar and their bare voices. Then they sing directly to members of the audience, many of whom are genuinely touched by the unexpected move.

"Starting with our second or third show, we used to do this thing where we'd process into the venue and out of the venue," Miss Kaiser explains. "We'd make eye contact with people, but it would just be us walking down the middle of the crowd. Eventually, we started weaving in and out of the audience and really trying to interact with people. It came out of this idea to share ourselves to the fullest extent possible with the audience."

Mr. Cartel admits that some attendees become uncomfortable with the prospect of standing face to face with a singing musician. "We'll pass by people if they obviously don't want that kind of attention," he explains, "but the majority of people have been very into it. It makes them lifelong fans."

• KaiserCartel will bring the love to the Black Cat on Tuesday. Local musician Andy Zipf headlines the show, which begins at 9 p.m. to the tune of $10."

December 11, 2008 - From Philadelphia, songwriter Jim Boggia is joined here in live performance by pianist Mike Frank and theMountain Stage band, singing songs from his latest full-length album, Misadventures in Stereo. Formerly a member of 4 Way Street with fellow songwriters Ben Arnold, Scott Bricklin, Joseph Parsons and Matt Muir, Boggia has been making solo records since 2002.

Boggia recorded Misadventures in Stereo using analog equipment and mixed it at London's famed Abbey Road studios. He also just unveiled the five-song EP The Abbey Road Sessions, available as a limited-time release. A heavy Beatles influence shows up in the final song, "No Way Out."

The song "Listening to NRBQ" holds a bit of sentimental value to the Mountain Stage family, as the song's title references the R&B/roots-rock band NRBQ, which made several appearances on Mountain Stage, even releasing a full-length record of the various sessions. Boggia's recorded version features a solo by "Big" Al Anderson, but filling in on this occasion is Mountain Stage guitarist Michael Lipton, a longtime NRBQ fan.

Following Boggia is Mountain Stage vocalist Julie Adams, who performs the Fountains of Wayne song "Troubled Times.

Kambui Olujimi indicts all of us in his solo show at UC

At first glance Brooklyn-based artist Kambui Olujimi’s solo show at Meyers Gallery at the University of Cincinnati, The Clouds Are Following Me, seems sparse. Loose-leaf pages hang from the white walls in likely formations. They become both more interesting and more disappointing when you look a little closer. The “clouds” that follow the artist are the unlucky, the illegal and the politically incorrect.

What this means is not at all simple. The papers are painted beautifully — in the loose but contained way of a lot of art right now. It’s also politically charged. But bringing the two together makes something consuming. We, as viewers, stand face-to-face, surrounded by the criminal acts of our generation. Phrases such as “parental neglect,” “shoot to maim,” and “life without parole” hang precariously from Olujimi’s papers, letters missing from the words like teeth from an impoverished smile.

Certain papers allude to wanted posters. Others refer to newspapers. Some are denials — fear of getting caught — and even more are accusations. Throughout the exhibition, Olujimi repeats Edward R. Murrow’s catch phrase, “Goodnight and good luck,” and it seems that we all, criminal and victims alike, need that luck.

Almost one year has passed since MillionTreesNYC was launched by Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg and New York York Restoration Project (NYRP) Founder Bette Midler. With your help, we are well on our way to planting one million new trees by 2017 and making our city cooler and greener. The MillionTreesNYC one-year anniversary is a chance to reflect on the many accomplishments achieved thus far, and to honor the individuals, community groups and corporations who have joined us to dig in and make the beginning of this ambitious initiative such a tree-mendous success.

Over the past year, we have planted 3,639 trees on 11 New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) campuses, planted 45,141 trees in parks as part of our citywide reforestation projects, and planted 21,441 trees along our city’s streets. This fall, look for new trees in schoolyards and playgrounds, hospitals and health centers, faith-based and cultural institutions, college and university campuses, cemeteries and other publicly accessible land throughout the City’s five boroughs.

Additionally, this fall we are launching the MillionTreesNYC Training Program, which will train a group of dedicated young adults in urban forestry and landscaping techniques. We are also piloting a new, integrated education program in 5th grade city classrooms entitled RespecTree, which combines an 8-month arbor education curriculum with on-site tree planting. In addition, the MillionTreesNYC team has been hard at work developing other educational initiatives that will enable New York City schoolteachers to incorporate arbor education into their curriculum. (CNN) -- LeRoi Moore, saxophonist and founding member of the Dave Matthews Band, died Tuesday from complications stemming from injuries he sustained in an ATV accident, the band's publicist said.

LeRoi Moore, a founding member of the Dave Matthews Band, died Tuesday.

Moore, 46, died "unexpectedly" at a hospital, publicist Ambrosia Healy said in a statement.

Moore was taken to Hollywood Presbyterian Medical Center in Los Angeles, California, and had been rehabilitating at his L.A. home after the June 30 accident at his farm outside Charlottesville, Virginia.

The Dave Matthews Band was formed in Charlottesville in 1991 by Matthews, drummer Carter Beauford and Moore, an established saxophonist in the local music scene.

Their first album, "Remember Two Things," was released in 1993 and featured what would become the band's trademark mixture of jazz, rock and world-music stylings. iReport.com: Are you a Dave Matthews fan?

"Jazz is probably my main influence, but at this stage I don't really consider myself a jazz musician," Moore is quoted as saying on the band's Web site. "I have plenty of space to improvise, to try new ideas."

The band's follow-up record, "Under the Table and Dreaming," has been certified quadruple-platinum, selling over 4 million copies.

The group went ahead with a scheduled show Tuesday night at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. Jeff Coffin, saxophonist for Bela Fleck and the Flecktones, has been sitting in for Moore since Moore's accident.

Matthews announced the death of the band's "dear friend" to the crowd.

Concertgoer Christian Tomas of Anaheim, California, said by telephone from the Staples Center that word of the death had spread through the crowd before the show.

"All of us are just really sad and down about it," said Tomas, a longtime fan. "But if Dave and the band decided to go on with the show, that means they know it was the right thing to do and Leroi would have wanted it."

On the Road Again: The diligent Virginia Coalition puts their experience to song

Virginia Coalition's Home This Year is a near perfect blend of musical styles. With bits of vintage country, old-school classic rock, and modern groove-pop, it's a listenable mix.

"It's good being eclectic," says frontman Andy Poliakoff. "It keeps you on your toes musically, and it's fun. We wanted to get back to some serious songwriting."

On the Alexandria-based trio's latest, singer/guitarist Poliakoff, keyboardist/guitarist Paul Ottinger, and bassist Jarrett Nicolay channeled their musical experiences into their lyrics, showcasing their songwriting and focusing on finding their own unique sound.

"In the past few years, we were writing for the live shows, endless groove things that are far from what we wrote when we were starting out," says Poliakoff. "We wanted to get back to that original creative impulse and focus on our songwriting."

The title track is about the melancholy of being far away from home — yearning to be with loved ones, but endlessly trapped on the road. The single touches on the band's challenging experience venturing cross-country to California.

"Being on the road away from your family and friends for a long period can be tangibly painful," says Poliakoff. "Home This Year embodies that sentiment and how singing about it can help make you feel closer to home."

Their time away from the grind of touring allowed them the opportunity to collaborate with such songwriter/producers as engineer Marshall Altman, who gave them inspiration and insight.

"Marshall is a phenomenal musician," says Poliakoff. "He'd get down to every hook, every chord, and every lyric."

Through their recent experiences on the road and in te studio, the Virginia Coalition found a way to grow and create an album reflective of their deep roots. —Buster Brown

"Bowie, Escovedo, and the Brooklyn Boy

During the spring of the Summer of Love, 1967, 23-year-old Brooklyn-born bassist, songwriter, and arranger Tony Visconti – already a veteran of rock & roll's continuing big bang – boarded BOAC for London in hopes of becoming a full-fledged record producer. Manfred Mann the first day, Procol Harum the second. "What I didn't know was that I would bump into Brian Jones of the Rolling Stones in a corridor at Olympic Studios and I would also see Jimi Hendrix jam later that evening," writes Visconti in 2007's Bowie, Bolan and the Brooklyn Boy.

"God knows what would happen on my third day."

Twenty-two and a half years later, the Man Who Produced Bowie's The Man Who Sold the World – as well as Low, Lodger, Heroes, Young Americans, Scary Monsters – virtually all of T. Rex, and a trio of titles by the Ziggy Stardust-scoffed Thin Lizzy (Bad Reputation, Live and Dangerous, Black Rose) took a trans-Atlantic one-way back. Should you detect a puff of "Ashes to Ashes" on "Golden Bear" from Alejandro Escovedo's new Visconti-rocked Real Animal, it's no coincidence.

"I'm glad you picked that up," enthuses Greenwich Village's most fulfilled studio pioneer. "That intro, on the demo, just captivated me. It haunted me. And I fought for that song being on the album. It wasn't a favorite of the record company, but it now is. I said, 'That's magic, that intro.' My mind, which is usually very analytical, just couldn't understand the chord changes, the beauty of it."

"Golden Bear" pads a gentler Real Animal, as does "Sister Lost Soul," whose Spector-ish flourish also came about intentionally.

"Yeah, that started out as very much a country song, and I said: 'We can't go there. We can't have too much twang in this song.' It could have gone country, and I thought that would've been inappropriate, because we were making a rock album."

In full agreement that film's auteur theory extends to the likes of George Martin, Gil Evans, even Rick Rubin – audio directors leaving imprints as indelible as visual counterparts Hitchcock, Fellini, Romero – Visconti offers his style as organic with a technical swagger.

"I just made that up!" he laughs.

With Real Animal, Visconti accomplished what no other producer including John Cale realized on an Escovedo LP: uniting the Austin icon's bleeding Latinate with his black Gibson SG. Lexington, Ky., last December found string-benders tuning guitars, violins, and violas to the same emotional frequency.

"I couldn't understand why Alejandro had a fascination [with strings], but he does," puzzles an arranger almost as renowned as Atlantic Records' late, great Arif Mardin. "He feels it's very much an integral part of his sound. On this album, though, I consciously directed the string players to play 'rock strings': 'We're gonna put guitar effects on your equipment. We're gonna go for a rock sound. We don't want a quasi-classical sound on this album. It's gotta be really up-to-date and earthy.'

"And they just rose to the occasion. Susan [Voelz, violin] and Brian [Standefer, cello] were fantastic. Both of them are arrangers, and I'm an arranger, so the three of us actually cooked up the parts together. We had a good time doing that."

Paradoxically, the results unleashed an animal Escovedo fans have fed for decades.

"Hector Muñoz is one of the best drummers I've ever worked with," gushes Visconti, who first became aware of Escovedo and company as New York chapter president of the National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences during the Por Vida campaign. "I couldn't believe Hector's power and his taste. That's a rare combination to be powerful, loud, and also have great taste, reserve when it's necessary.

"Hector completely blew me away.

"And I like the fact that they weren't hardcore studio musicians. Everyone in the band has soul, and I can work with that better than professionalism. They played together really great in rehearsal, facing each other in the same room and all that. I tried to get the same atmosphere in the studio. I didn't put up any screens, any barriers. If I turned off Alejandro's microphone on the mixes, you could hear his live vocal on the drum kit. He was singing that close to Hector.

"This made the spirit of the album, to have everybody in the same room playing at the same time. Consequently, it didn't take long to record, because we didn't spend tedious weeks overdubbing. A lot of that stuff is the live take. We redid the guitar solos, and about 40 percent of the vocals I used Alejandro's live vocal."

Given Escovedo's Bowie-and-Iggy-romp-in-Berlin DNA mutation, does Austin's Real Animal compare in stature?

"Sure," says Visconti without hesitation. "My benchmark is, 'Does this person sound like anybody else?' And so many people do. But Alejandro is unique. He's a one-off. I see audiences just enthralled. Talk about charisma and having people hang on every breath. I have seen that. I've witnessed that. He has that effect on me, too. When he sang in the studio, I'd get goose bumps. He does that to me. He does that to other people."

Great Week For KaiserCartel

KaiserCartel captivated the sold out audience on Tuesday night in New York City. The intimacy of Joe's Pub was a superb setting to officially welcome their full length debut March Forth in to the world. Their enchanting, playful and at times haunting songs billowed crept and swelled up and around every table and vip booth in the joint.

The warmth of thier sound was enhanced also by a small ensemble of freinds adding cello guitar, bass and xylophone through out the preformance. It was a ever rotated stage as Courtney and Ben themselves would switch from guitar to keys to drums to bells to and back again. in case anyone missed this i wanted to post it. as i am not sure of the inner workings of this test or what time warner is hoping to accomplish. it is hard to determine how this might help rights holders. are copyright holders' going to be getting a cut of the increased revenue created by moves like this or is it simply a play to make it harder for the people who want to consume media (like music :) to do so and more costly? seems like a great first step...but where is the extra income heading...hmm? interesting though:

Time Warner Cable tries metering Internet use

Time Warner Cable starts customer trial with metered Internet access in Texas

NEW YORK (AP) -- You're used to paying extra if you use up your cell phone minutes, but will you be willing to pay extra if your home computer goes over its Internet allowance?

Time Warner Cable Inc. customers -- and, later, others -- may have to, if the company's test of metered Internet access is successful.

On Thursday, new Time Warner Cable Internet subscribers in Beaumont, Texas, will have monthly allowances for the amount of data they upload and download. Those who go over will be charged $1 per gigabyte, a Time Warner Cable executive told the Associated Press.

Metered billing is an attempt to deal fairly with Internet usage, which is very uneven among Time Warner Cable's subscribers, said Kevin Leddy, Time Warner Cable's executive vice president of advanced technology.

Just 5 percent of the company's subscribers take up half of the capacity on local cable lines, Leddy said. Other cable Internet service providers report a similar distribution.

"We think it's the fairest way to finance the needed investment in the infrastructure," Leddy said.

Metered usage is common overseas, and other U.S. cable providers are looking at ways to rein in heavy users. Most have download caps, but some keep the caps secret so as not to alarm the majority of users, who come nowhere close to the limits. Time Warner Cable appears to be the first major ISP to charge for going over the limit: Other companies warn, then suspend, those who go over.

Phone companies are less concerned about congestion and are unlikely to impose metered usage on DSL customers, because their networks are structured differently.

Time Warner Cable had said in January that it was planning to conduct the trial in Beaumont, but did not give any details. On Monday, Leddy said its tiers will range from $29.95 a month for relatively slow service at 768 kilobits per second and a 5-gigabyte monthly cap to $54.90 per month for fast downloads at 15 megabits per second and a 40-gigabyte cap. Those prices cover the Internet portion of subscription bundles that include video or phone services. Both downloads and uploads will count toward the monthly cap.

A possible stumbling block for Time Warner Cable is that customers have had little reason so far to pay attention to how much they download from the Internet, or know much traffic makes up a gigabyte. That uncertainty could scare off new subscribers.

Those who mainly do Web surfing or e-mail have little reason to pay attention to the traffic caps: a gigabyte is about 3,000 Web pages, or 15,000 e-mails without attachments. But those who download movies or TV shows will want to pay attention. A standard-definition movie can take up 1.5 gigabytes, and a high-definition movie can be 6 to 8 gigabytes.

Time Warner Cable subscribers will be able to check out their data consumption on a "gas gauge" on the company's Web page.

The company won't apply the gigabyte surcharges for the first two months. It has 90,000 customers in the trial area, but only new subscribers will be part of the trial.

Billing by the hour was common for dial-up service in the U.S. until AOL introduced an unlimited-usage plan in 1996. Flat-rate, unlimited-usage plans have been credited with encouraging consumer Internet use by making billing easy to understand.

"The metered Internet has been tried and tested and rejected by the consumers overwhelmingly since the days of AOL," information-technology consultant George Ou told the Federal Communications Commission at a hearing on ISP practices in April.

Metered billing could also put a crimp in the plans of services like Apple Inc.'s iTunes that use the Internet to deliver video. DVD-by-mail pioneer Netflix Inc. just launched a TV set-top box that receives an unlimited stream of Internet video for as little as $8.99 per month.

Comcast Corp., the country's largest cable company, has suggested that it may cap usage at 250 gigabytes per month. Bend Cable Communications in Bend, Ore., used to have multitier bandwidth allowances, like the ones Time Warner Cable will test, but it abandoned them in favor of an across-the-board 100-gigabyte cap. Bend charges $1.50 per extra gigabyte consumed in a month."

A new beta of Apple's iPhone Software v2.0 Update released privately to a select group of enterprise partners this week adds a few new preferences and the beginnings of geo-tagging support for the handset's Camera app.

People familiar with the release, reportedly labeled build 5A292g, say location-aware services such as "Maps" and "Camera" now ask the user's permission before transmitting data used to identify their current geographical location.

The addition as it applies to the Camera application is interesting in that it suggests Apple is actively working on adding support for geo-tagging photographs, those people say.

Essentially, geo-tagging is the process of adding geographical identification metadata to media files such as latitude and longitude coordinates -- or even names of places -- so that those files can later be referenced, searched, and grouped based on their origin.

In addition, Apple is also reported to have added a toggle under the iPhone's general preference pane that will allow users to enable/disable Location Services on a system-wide basis.

Although the new beta prompts users for permission to use Location Services in the Camera application, those people familiar with the software say it appears that location metadata is not yet embedded in new photographs.

New York - Eight former executives from the company then known as AOL Time Warner (NYSE: TWX) have been charged by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) with inflating the company's online ad revenues by more than $1 billion between 2000-2002. Four of the executives -- including former controller James MacGuidwin -- have agreed to settle civil charges by paying the SEC about $8 million in fines.

Four others -- including former CFO John Michael Kelly and Joseph Ripp, the former CFO of the company's AOL unit -- have opted to contest the charges in federal court.

The SEC said that the eight took part in fraudulent deals in which AOL Time Warner artificially boosted its own revenue by giving advertisers money to buy online ads they wouldn't otherwise have purchased.

Other former executives to settle include David Colburn, Eric Keller and Jay Rappaport, while charges are still pending against Steven Rindner and Mark Wovsaniker.

It is hard to believe that Juliana Hatfield has now been making music for two decades. Looking back to her days in the Boston indie rock group Blake Babies to her modern rock radio hit "My Sister," she has been cranking out music for quite some time. She is still at it, releasing her 10th solo album on August 19th via her own label, Ye Olde Records.

The new disc, How To Walk Away, was produced by Ivy's Andy Chase, featuring guest appearances by Richard Butler from Psychedelic Furs, Matthew Caws from Nada Surf, Jody Porter from Fountains of Wayne, and Tracy Bonham (yes, that Tracy Bonham) on violin. It feels as if we stepped into an alt-rock time machine and got pulled back into the '90s.

To get an early listen, she has posted the new song "Shining On" on her MySpace page for her fans. Also, she has apparently penned an autobiography, which will be available at some point next year.

"Finally, I have a second to write my weekly (well, kind of weekly these days but I SWEAR TO YOU I will get back on track one of these days) Reg’s Coffee House email after spending a lovely week in Las Vegas with my brothers and sisters of CIMS at our annual indie record store convention. As I have said in the past (and I will continue to say as long as I believe it), the indie record store is alive and well despite what everyone in the media and all the haters want to make you believe. Is it harder to sell music? Yes. Does the system make it even harder than it has to be? Yes. Will these men and women fight for what they believe in and do what it takes to continue to survive in our ever changing music world…HELL YES!

Nothing recharges my music business batteries more than spending a few days with these indie retail soldiers. They are true masters at guerrilla warfare and to watch them all in a room plotting how to fight the good fight is inspiring. There was no pity party, there was no doom and gloom, there was no desperation. Instead, the room was filled with ideas and inspiration, with vim and vigor, with hope and glory. As one owner put it to me, “Scott, you have stuff you can fall back on if you want to get out of this business but this is all I know how to do and as long as I am breathing, I am going to be selling music and turning music lovers on to new stuff.” I didn’t question him for a second.

If you need more proof, don’t miss Record Store Day this Saturday at your nearest indie record store (see www.recordstoreday.com for a list of participating stores). This celebration has taken on a life of its own as hundreds of stores from the US to Europe to Australia and who knows where else have latched on to the idea of celebrating the cultural phenomena that is the independent record store.

For fun, I decided to write down the first three indie record store memories that popped into my head.

1) Sifting through the racks of vinyl at Odyssey Records in Hoover, AL, in the early to mid 80’s and spending all my money on The Ramones, The Clash, The Police, and any other punk and early alternative music that I could get my hands on. I spent so many afternoons just hanging out and soaking in that store and couldn’t wait for the school bell to ring so I could make my way to musical bliss. What I wouldn’t give for my kids to have that kind of experience instead of staring at a computer screen in their room sifting through files. Call me an old fart, say I’m out of touch, I don’t give a damn because I know the truth and there is no comparing the two. I’m not saying there is anything wrong with the way most of today’s kids get their music, Heaven knows I would have loved to have had all of that music at my fingertips, but there is room in the world for both and nothing can replace the human experience of socializing in a corner record store for someone who truly loves music. NOTHING!

2) Walking into Magic Platter and hearing Glen Phillips voice for the first time as the opening lines to “Torn”, the first song on Toad The Wet Sprocket’s “Pale”, flowed from the stereo system. I literally sat on the floor, listened to the entire record and then bought it and “Bread And Circus”. It was love at first hear and I couldn’t wait to get home and start turning everyone I knew onto it. This, again, is what the record store experience is all about.

3) The synergy my radio show had with Laser’s Edge and Magic Platter from the mid 90’s until both stores closed their doors. It was unreal. There is nothing more energizing then watching people search out the music you play on the radio, seeing them support the artist and knowing you helped satisfy a music lover’s hunger.

Sadly, all of the stores I mentioned have moved on for one reason or another. The fact of the matter is, it is the nature of any kind of retail. How many restaurants open and close each month? How many clothing stores? Novelty shops? Record stores come and go and will continue to for years to come. Will there eventually be no more indie record stores? Who knows? We live in a crazy world where everything changes daily and nothing is definite. But, two things I know for sure…1) I will be in Atlanta celebrating Record Store Day this Saturday at Criminal Records and it will be an amazing time. And, 2) I wouldn’t bet on the death of the indie record store coming anytime soon. "When I was growing up in my little town of Malvern, Arkansas, we had a shop called Paula's Record Shop, run by this lady Paula, and we would come in and stay all day thumbing through the 45's and the albums, and just look at everything. We couldn't afford to buy anything so we would just hang there all day - it was really like Oz to us. I got my entire musical education from that record store and the radio. We would hear the songs and the bands on the radio and we'd go straight to Paula's and stare at the covers and read the album notes.

It was the only record store in town. There weren't any big conglomerates or any other record outlets. It was just this little shop - it seemed at that time so huge to me, but I know now it was just this little bitty building. My friends and I couldn't believe it when we went in there. There are still some cities that have record stores that give me that same feeling when I used to walk into Paula's. In Austin, I go to Waterloo, in Minneapolis I go to the Electric Fetus. I usually have to get an extra suitcase to bring home with me on the plane to carry everything I bought at those shops!

Independent record stores are really the only places left with the actual spirit of music as I knew it growing up, and hopefully those will be around for 50 years from now because that's where it feels magical - you don't feel like you're buying a tire iron, tube of shampoo, a 12 pack, a bag of Cheetos and a record."

“Record Store Day should be our new national holiday. Independent record stores, where you can absorb yourself in hearing music which many chain stores don't carry, are an oasis for all who spend time in them. They always have people working behind the counter who are true fans of the many varieties of music which you can find that are available on CD recordings today, and these enthusiastic and committed salespeople are often musicians themselves. And if they are not, like all musicians, they are lifelong fans of all kinds of music. That's why I always enjoy going to little stores all over the country in my continual travels on the road.
Since I am now seventy-seven, I am a little older than the average teen age customer, but it is amazing how much exciting new music is now available in these independent stores. It is great to see people of all ages drawn together by music, checking out not only the recorded treasures of the past, but the work of young independent artists who have something to say. In an era where there is an unprecedented amount of new music available, the independent stores are vital in making a connection between the artist and the listener.

In the areas of music to which I have devoted my life; symphonic, opera, jazz and what is now called World Music, are genres which are not considered commercial. All these life-giving forms of musical expression now have a larger audience than anyone could imagine, and the independent stores are where you can go to obtain recordings that chain stores aren't allowed to carry. The small stores can sell whatever they want, and usually, the owners or buyers for the store actually listen to the music that they stock and sell in their stores.

These independent entrepreneurs still feel that music is a holy and healing art that transcends market researchers with tin ears who feel that teenagers are the only customers worth exploiting, and that by definition neither these kids nor the music they are supposed to want to buy that week are both worthless. As a result an enormous amount of enjoyable music never gets made available in the chain stores, whose choices of what is worth listening to are made by non-listeners, who never had the good fortune to have sung, danced or hung out with positive open minded people who feel music, as Shakespeare said, is the food of love.
All across the country, Independent stores are all different. Each store, like each community, has its own special atmosphere, and its own special delights. And in addition to everything else, these stores are fun to go to. You always meet interesting and enthusiastic people, and learn something new about the treasures of the past and the work of many of our unsung sleeping giants of today.
Let's all celebrate Record Store Day. This can be the first step towards celebrating Record Store Year! Small is beautiful. Let's all try to support independent stores, the communities that they nourish by their presence, and the wealth of music that they make available to all of us. ”

"Emmanuel Jal On Moby And New Anti-Slavery Doc

The story of Emmanuel Jal has begun to spread rather quickly, yet it gets no less remarkable. Hurried as a child into the Sudan People's Liberation Army to fight in Sudan's civil war, Jal managed to flee to a refugee camp in early adolescence, and has since found further refuge in music. Now his hip-hop-inspired album, Warchild, is out May 13 via Sonic360/Fontana, a documentary about Jal of the same name is making the festival circuit, and his autobiography is in the works with St. Martins Press.

Moby, the zen-like American arbiter of electro-pop, might seem a strange bedfellow for Jal, but the two united for the soon-to-be-released documentary/concert film, Call And Response: A Concert To End Slavery. The concert, captured last May in New York, features not just collaborations between Moby and Jal, but other performances from the likes of Imogen Heap and Cold War Kids, as well as interviews with Darryl Hannah, Ashley Judd and Madeleine Albright, among others.

"I feel like what I've experienced is kind of similar [to the film], so when I was asked to be a part of it, I said maybe my presence might help to make it stronger," says Jal, via phone from London, of his impetus for participating in the movie. "We're all children of war but in different circumstances. Nothing can beat human testimony. Every person has a story... There's power when you testify a story... What I came to do with Moby, I brought my story in and we're pushing it out and we hope people will bring attention [to] and support the campaign."

And what was it like hunkering down with the bespectacled songwriter/DJ/producer? "I was shocked at how humble he was," Jal reflects. "He's very nice and laid back. I was impressed to see a guy like him be so humble and talk to me like a normal person on the street."

Slowly the young woman lowers the giant fan spanning her body—just enough that her shy eyes peek out. She blinks coquettishly at her audience before raising the fan again, high enough to show off her garter adorned with tassels that sway back and forth as her hips slowly undulate.

For most of the earlier part of the 20th century, this scene played itself out on burlesque stages across the country. Women adorned in lavish—often garish—costumes danced, performed novelty acts like fire-breathing, told comedic tales, satirized famous pieces of literature and took off their clothes.

The art of burlesque, with its vaudevillian origins, was virtually erased during the latter part of the 20th century. As our culture underwent a period of sexual liberation, burlesque dancers left their tassels, pasties and sequins backstage and began baring their bodies in an increasingly flagrant manner. Eventually, the art of burlesque dancing was all but extinct, leaving its descendant to take its place—stripping as we know it today.

The stripping genre today is associated with drugs, slutty outfits, seedy back room lap dances and, at least in Massachusetts, which doesn't require strippers to wear a G-string, gratuitous vaginal shots. Gone for the most part are the subtle tease, the feminine theatrics and witty commentary that make burlesque an art. In their place are blatant seduction techniques, pole theatrics and an element of voyeuristic prurience that permeates most strip clubs.

But over the last two decades, a burlesque revival has begun. The art of neo-burlesque is a modernized form of burlesque. While the costumes are similar if not more outrageous—think transvestite gear and putty witch noses—the shows feature a broader range of performances from mini-plays to robot dances, and, of course, the classic strip tease. Many modern burlesque dancers, including New York's Legs Malone, find performing burlesque empowering. Viewing the art of neo-burlesque as helping women feel comfortable with their bodies and their sexuality, Malone thinks the revival is a boon for feminism.

Malone, a 30-year old burlesque dancer and co-producer of New York City's Sugar Shack Burlesque, took time out of her tassel-rippling schedule to talk to the Advocate about how she began her career as a burlesque artist, how she thinks burlesque affects feminism, and how her family responds to her chosen career.

Advocate: How did you get involved with the neo-burlesque movement?

Legs Malone: This might sound a bit funny, but I literally heard a voice in my head during guided meditation. The woman leading us told us to ask ourselves what profession would bring us the most joy in our life. Literally, a voice in my head said, "burlesque dancer." I had no idea what it was.

What happened after that? How did you find out what it was?

I took a class at the New York School of Burlesque with Jo Boobs. Then when I was in England I started taking classes there. A friend and I ended up going to an amateur contest preceded by a class on how to bump and grind. As we were waiting for the show to start, the producer was frantically running around saying, "Can you perform please, please?" I guess some of the performers got cold feet.

Initially my friend and I said no, but then I decided to go for it. It was a complete disaster. Rehearsing in front of a mirror and being on stage are two completely different things. As soon as I saw the sea of faces, I just stopped listening to the music. Then I went back to an amateur contest two months later and I ended up winning.

How did you get involved with Sugar Shack Burlesque?

Runaround Sue [a founder and co-producer of Sugar Shack Burlesque] and I met at one of Jo Boobs' classes after I had moved back to New York. She invited me to one of their shows and although it took me a bit to make it down to one, I ended up going and having a blast. We became good friends and eventually we decided that I would replace Lady Satan (a founder and former co-producer of Sugar Shack) as co-producer because she was moving to the West Coast. She's now starting up Sugar Shack West.

What are you trying to give to the audience during a Sugar Shack performance?

I'd say the main thing I want to do is challenge the audience in a stimulating, not aggressive way—to take them out of their ordinary experience and generally wow them. While the strip tease is the center of a burlesque number, I usually work in a satirical or comedic vein. I find it much easier to be funny than sexy. To me that's much more classic burlesque. I think smart is a lot sexier than, "Oh, look at me, I'm beautiful," and "Oh, here are my boobs." I only perform numbers that I want to see myself.

Do you perform any straight strip tease acts?

I'm working on a few straight strip teases. They're hard for me. They require an enormous amount of focus—it's not something that comes very naturally to me but I'm getting more comfortable with it. Sue is a really gifted fan dancer. She does a lot more straight strip tease than I do, and it is just stunning.

Why do you think burlesque is making a comeback?

For a lot of different reasons, really. This grass roots movement started to happen in the mid '90s, sort of separately around the U.S.—New York, L.A., Seattle, Chicago. Then they banded together to create this neo-burlesque movement. It just keeps growing. There had always been Exotic World, literally a goat farm that had been turned into a burlesque farm. The Miss Exotic World Pageant was always held there until 2006, when it got so big it moved to Las Vegas. I went for the first time last year and it just knocked my socks off. It was unlike anything I've ever seen before—hundreds of people running around in G-strings, covered in glitter. They've just closed the application deadline for this year. Participation is at an all-time high.

How does being a burlesque dancer affect your sexuality?

Apart from being in a bathing suit on the beach, I'd never been naked in front of an audience. It's made me enormously comfortable with my body and comfortable in general. Being on stage in a G-string and pasties is a pretty good barometer of your comfort level. Some women go into it who have either been victims of sexual abuse, had eating disorders or body-centric issues. I think that's such a shame, because women are so gorgeous. This society—pop culture—keeps telling them they're not worth anything if they don't look a certain way. That's the most disempowering and evil thing I've ever heard in my entire life.

Are there many different types of burlesque dancers?

Everybody brings something wildly unique to the stage. A lot of burlesque dancers don't have conventional body types, like Dirty Martini, for example. She's incredibly voluptuous. She's got this amazing curvy body that's a proper hourglass shape. She just knocks everybody flat on their ass. It's not an aggressive thing. She's just celebrating her body and, in the process, opening doors for the audience and their perspective.

Women often come up to me and say, "Thank you very much for doing this." I'm rather slender, so I plug into the more mainstream appeal. But there are women who are a lot curvier and have beautiful round tummies and gorgeous rolling hips. They just knock men and women flat on their backs. Finally, women are empowered and owning every single inch of their curves, whether or not they have cellulite or freckles or whatever.

One of the amazing things about burlesque is that the body has ultimately no impact. It's the spirit and the strength of the spirit that comes across. The body is a beautiful vehicle for that. It flips a lot of preconceived notions on their ears.

Do you think the neo-burlesque movement is changing the way women view themselves?

The burlesque community, at least the one in New York, is nothing short of a modern-day Mount Olympus with gods and goddesses. There are female performers who, through their performances, take on a higher harmonic of feminism.

When you turn on the television, everything is so very homogenized and safe. It goes back to everything that made America and it's so fucking boring. It's all cookie cutters. Turning on MTV, I'd rather put my head through the window than constantly adhere to the norm. Growing up, it was terrifying to be an individual. It was so cliquish. Now to see women of all shapes and sizes just own it and celebrate it—not aggressively pushing it in your face, more like an offering—it's just stunning. It has helped me evolve as person.

What do you say to the feminists who see the neo-burlesque movement as detrimental to the feminist cause?

I would say we're helping the feminist movement. I think a lot of feminists who say that have never been to a burlesque show. They may have been to a strip club, but it's a totally different environment. I challenge the feminists out there to go to a burlesque show and then say what their opinions are. God bless every single feminist—the movement has brought fabulous things. But I have to say there are so many different performers with different backgrounds who are performing the art of neo-burlesque that for women to say it's cutting down feminism—well, I think they just have to go to a show and see.

The New York City burlesque scene is full of some of the most powerful feminists I've ever met. If anything, being a part of it has made me become a better feminist. The women up there on stage, they're the ones in control. There's nothing that happens on that stage that is against their will. Challenging yourself is the most empowering thing you can do as a woman.

Have you been influenced at all by some of the original burlesque stars like Gypsy Rose Lee and Lili St. Cyr?

If anything, they set the standard. That was the golden age of burlesque. Their performances are something I aspire to stylistically, meaning the execution of their acts. If you watch old videos of some of the stars' performances, it's just so beautiful. But our society is so oversexed that those performances would need to be tweaked a little bit. Today's audiences aren't so easily satisfied."

What is a typical Sugar Shack Burlesque show like?

We always bring on guest performers with different energies. That really brings such diversity to our shows. We have comedians, magicians, beautiful women, sword swallowers—lots of variety.

How does your family react to your profession?

I think it was pretty shocking to them, especially because I followed such an academic track—I have a master's in contemporary art from Sotheby's Institute of Art in England. My father wants absolutely nothing to do with [my career]. He's supportive of it but it makes him uncomfortable; he doesn't want to see it. My mom and my stepmom have seen my show. My mom didn't really know what to think, but she loved it. I don't think she's seen me naked since I was four."

glad to know that i am not the only one :) check out the show below as it is raising money for an amazing organization and it is the handiwork of another person using their H-town blessings to create small change. actually... there are a lot of artists out there using their h-town blessings! anyone like "good will hunting?" i know that i do! we need more of us to do the same...and you don't have to have even finished college...small miracles can happen anywhere and come from anyone...what is a miracle you might ask...well...if you are asking me, it is a shift in the collective consciousness of a nation, people, race, or gender to effect positive social change. on the flipside, that might not be YOUR definition. which is totally cool but...if each of us tried who knows what might happen? plus who is mad at a show for a really good cause? I know i am not! so, please please please grab your friends and get in gear and grab a ticket!

LOS ANGELES—Tom Morello, guitarist for Rage Against The Machine and Audioslave who plays firebrand folk as The Nightwatchman, brings his Justice Tour to the Nokia Theater April 17. Joining him for the show will be Slash, Perry Farrell, Jerry Cantrell of Alice In Chains, Ours, Wayne Kramer of MC5 and Denis Leary (FX-TV’s “Rescue Me”) and his band the Crown Royals with the Rehab Horns.

The show is a benefit concert to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Road Recovery, a nonprofit organization comprised of entertainment industry professionals whose lives have been touched by addiction and other adversities, and who now wish to make a positive impact on the lives of others. The concert will include a performance by Crazy James, a youth rock band from Road Recovery’s Performance Workshop Program.

Tickets for the Road Recovery benefit are $60, $100, and $250 and are on sale now at TicketMaster outlets, at ticketmaster.com and at the Nokia Theatre box office. In addition, a special block of Justice Tour 2008 discount general admission tickets is being made available for $25 per ticket, available at the same outlets.

Tom Morello’s two-week, seven-city Justice Tour stops in Los Angeles, New York, New Orleans, Asheville, NC, Washington, DC and Boston before concluding with a May Day show in Chicago on May 1.

Each stop of the Justice Tour includes a day of activism to focus on a sphere of social justice in America: homelessness (Los Angeles, April 15), safe, secure and affordable housing (New Orleans, April 20), a living wage (Asheville, NC, April 22), peace and veterans care (Washington, DC, April 24), affordable healthcare (Boston, April 28) and labor organizing (Chicago, May 1).
