it's all about the polar bears and wanderlust!

so in general bjork usually knows what is really good. i think it is the whole iceland thing...look back to the "peace in the middle east" post. darkness seems to do a body's music good but I am not so sure how good it is for a person's actual body...vitamin d and all...here is a clip for her new video INSANE animation...

CHECK IT:

in other bjork happenings supposedly she actually called for peace in china during her concert there and caused an uproar but really when things like beating monks are happening can you blame her? i think not...i mean who is mad at peace?!?!

oil dependancy...is it really good?...ummm no :)

hi all,

here is a very cool little video that has some helpful tips on saving energy and in general some thoughts on oil dependancy. i am not mad at oil per se but i think the planet might be...cannot be 100% sure as there is clearly no one to ask :) unless a slew of very smart cookie scientists counts

more importantly: the intro song is provided courtesy of our very own kaisercartel! yay for season song! because well i know I am pretty darn stressed that there no longer seem to be real "season's of the year"...

the tripwire yet again knows what's really good...:)

check it! and while your at it check the daily swarm link as well good stuff.

www.thetripwire.com/news/2008/3/24/could-ipod-fatigue-save-the-radio-biz-doubtful

After making all of my normal online rounds this morning, which includes a pitstop at The Daily Swarm, I found an article that seemed especially interesting. They had linked to a recent story from the Washington Post, in which discussed that the radio industry is hoping that "iPod fatigue" will eventually bring listeners back to the FM dial.

One interesting quote came from Jerry Del Colliano, who is a professor of music industry at the University of Southern California. He said: "They want to be the program director and they insist that the program be free." This was in response to a comment that stated music fans are turned off by commercial radio's advertising breaks. Sure, some radio stations push listeners' patience by extending their commercial breaks well beyond a reasonable amount of time, but that is not the real problem. If there was a quality product that appealed to the blogger/iPod music generation, perhaps listenership would return.

Colliano added: "Young consumers don't have that need that we older folks have to have someone knowledgeable about the music tell them what's new. They have their social network to tell them what's cool." Sure there are plenty of ways for music-hungry consumers to hear about up-and-coming artists, but there are reasons that non-commercial radio stations such as KEXP, KCRW and WOXY have stepped up their games (and listenership). As great as it can be to sift through the various music blogs and websites to uncover cool new bands, it is also nice to be able to sit back and let the music come to you via radio.

The article also states that there is evidence that people are beginning to suffer from iPod fatigue. It says that people "know too well what's stored on their player and they crave surprise." I know that when I'm stuck in Austin traffic, whenever I plug in my own iPod I'm not looking for any element of musical surprise. On those rare occasions that I am, I've got several podcasts filled with new music that are ready and waiting to be listened to.

If radio programmers (terrestrial broadcast, online and satellite) are waiting for this infamous iPod fatigue to help bring listenership back, I've got an even better suggestion. Step up your game give devoted music fans something worth listening to. Gambling on people to lose interest in a piece of technology seems a bit ridiculous, especially when many now use theirs in place of a CD player in the car. Chances are, people will continue to use their MP3 player of choice just as frequently, until they're given a real reason to turn their radios back on.

SXSW and the myth about "jam bands"...

hi all,

as always these days i am a little late on posting about the killer shows that we saw and bluhammock happenings down in texas. there was an enourmous amount of amazing music and so many bands down there that i must say it was all a little overwhelming :) let me just start with some of the bands that i wish i had gotten to see and didn't :( please do not think that this is by any means a complete list...the list is really too long to type the whole thing these were on the top of my mind :)

now onto what i did see! all of our artists of course and I could not have had a better time just jamming and listening to music. first up was the hotel cafe showcase www.myspace.com/hotelcafetour where cary brothers played. it was a good time had by all and i got the chance to check out a bunch of amazing artists all in one place. head to the link above to see all of the amazing acts on the tour and of course...should you feel so inclined...grab a ticket!

blew me away....rocco delucca: southern sounding soul and plays a mean guitar. check him out here: www.myspace.com/roccodeluca

next up meiko: been hearing about her for a minute and a funny story goes along with this that goes something like no one knew she sang or had songs then one day she did...well done and the songs sounded great...liked the dress too. :) take a look.

cary ended his set with everyone coming up on stage and singing blue eyes with him everyone was making it sound perfectly in tune...pretty awesome considering there were like 14 people on the stage...

check it:

next up was the bluhammock showcase at the hilton...can i just say YAY!!!!!!! it was an awesome night and bananas that the majority of our bands got a chance to see each other play and get to know each other if only for a couple of days. i popped a squat on the floor and boogied to the music all night who could ask for anything more?!?! oh! and there were pretty flowers :)
we had the pleasure of having an amazing photographer named michael weintrob take some pictures for us: check him out at:

robyn at the perez hilton party: ok so a friend of mine had sent me one of her tracks about a year ago called "Konichiwa Bitc*es" and people over here at the hammock liked it so much the made it their ringtone and the song could be heard being played for months on an off well...i finally got to see it live: LIKE WHAT?!?! she sold me some songs that night. AMAZING!!! shakin' it like her momma gave her and even pulled out "buffalo stance" and a couple of other cool oldies and made them her own. not to mention who is ever mad at capelike arm drapings...hmm...not me...when robyn is wearing them. but i would warn the average girl to avoid these or use with caution :) rock on rock on robyn and i hope more people get to see this show woo hoo!!!! CHECK IT:
www.myspace.com/robynmyspace

ben jelen:
www.myspace.com/benjelen
i only caught the last song despite having tried twice to see this show. bananas. if you don't know about him you should. killed it at stubbs period.

when i got back from SXSW i headed to see a kin show and they had just come from playing with the pat mcgee band. here is where I would like to point out something about "jam bands" while people like to use that term to imply that there are no "songs" that is just not the case!!!!! furthermore I watched charlie from PGB play a TABLE!!! literally a simple, wobbly, restaurant table...and he made it sound brilliant. i don't know of a whole lot of musicians these days that are playing tables and makin' that work for them but in the jam world...people are playing most days of the year and makin' a table sing...no big deal...interesting that his wedding band acted like the rim of a drum...:) may not look "cool" but it certainly sounded hella cool :)

if you don't know about the kin or the pat mcgee band please please please check them out!!
www.myspace.com/patmcgeeband & www.myspace.com/thekin

that's all for now! stay tuned to the bluhammock website for more pictures from the rest of SXSW

peace.

it's been a damn good day!

hi all,
so yesterday we had a bunch of pretty awesome things happened here in the hammock. first and foremost, I would like to welcome two more amazing artists to the bluhammock family. welcome val emmich and martin luther!!!! we are psyched to have you join us over here and look forward makin' some beautiful music with you.

who are val emmich and martin luther you might ask... well...they are actually pretty different birds musically but as always...pretty darn awesome in their own way and as always there is something called common ground...both val and martin do a little bit of acting on the side. what do they act in you might ask? well you might have seen martin in a movie called Across The Universe that has a whole bunch of killer beatles songs in it, actually...the whole movie is pretty much beatles songs! that could be why the soundtrack went gold...'dem beatles were onto something I think: what do you think? :)

val has made some guest appearances on 30 Rock and Cashmere Mafia i have a feeling you will be seeing more of them on various sized screens in the near future...well at least we all here at the hammock hope so nice when artists also act...makes that whole video thing WAY easier...

CHECK EM HERE:
www.rebelsoulmusic.com : martin luther's site
www.valemmich.com : val's site could you guess from the domain name...lol

in other video news...we all want to send a shout out to a little bird named shiloh who appears in both the virginia coalition video and the cary brothers' video we heard he got a pretty amazing part and we could not be more psyched. CONGRATS SHILOH!!!! thank you as well to the amazingly talented tyler shields for agreeing to shoot these videos! much appreciated. if you don't know tyler's work (really you should!) please head to: www.tylershields.com AMAZING photos and videos and just an AMAZING bird in general...as always I digress...back to the other rockin' news:

bluhammock productions' very first film: Explicit Ills rocked the party at SXSW film and brought home the audience choice award as well as the award for best cinematography...YIPEEEEEEEEEEEEEE...very exciting I must say for us over here in the hammock! first anythings are always a little stressful...rock on to the amazing people involved in the film for allowing bluhammock to be a part of such an awesome production. keep an eye out for interviews from director Mark Webber and Rosario Dawson as well as the other members of the cast about the film. one complaint i heard from a couple of folks was that they could not get into the theater:

www.cinematical.com/2008/03/08/live-from-sxsw-the-ills-of-the-explicit-ills-premiere/

while I completely understand why this would be upsetting...i would like to point out that that movie was a labor of love for mark webber as evidenced by the dedication at the end so...i think if he wanted to have his friends and family up in the theater...can you really blame him? :)

off to a great sxsw...who could ask for anything more?!

peace.

DMB Debuting New Songs On Summer Tour
Dave Matthews Band
March 06, 2008, 11:40 AM ET
Katie Hasty, N.Y.
Spring may be on its way, but Dave Matthews Band already has its eyes set on summer. The rock troupe's three-month summer tour will begin May 30-31 outside Pittsburgh, and will feature material from its next studio album, to be produced by Rob Cavallo.

DMB has finished pre-production for the project and hit the studio this week to begin recording with Cavallo. The album will also feature contributions from longtime collaborator Tim Reynolds, whose last guest appearance on a DMB studio effort was 1998's "Before These Crowded Streets."

The band hasn't released a new studio album since 2005's "Stand Up," which bowed at the summit of The Billboard 200.

Fan club members can participate in a tour pre-sale starting at noon today (March 6), while the general public can purchase beginning March 29. Opening acts for the trek include Willie Nelson, the Black Crowes, Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings, O.A.R., Michael Franti and Spearhead, Grace Potter and the Nocturnals, Paolo Nutini, Gomez and Ingrid Michaelson.

The eco-friendly band will also continue to work with Reverb, the organization that has helped "green" tours by DMB and other major acts of late. "We're talking to the organizers about ways of taking our efforts even further than last year," bassist Stefan Lessard says.

Before the summer dates, Matthews and Reynolds are set to perform at Jack Johnson's fifth annual Kokua Festival in Hawaii April 19-20. They are also slated for an April 11 benefit concert for the Dalai Lama/Seeds of Compassion in Seattle.

what does 1% mean to you...?

hi all,

I would like to welcome the newest member of the bluhammock family! WELCOME 1% FOR THE PLANET!!!! what is 1 % for the planet you might ask?  well...in this case, it is a not for profit organization that does some pretty amazing work and well...all of us over here at bluhammock wanted to lend a helping hand and support! how are we supporting you might ask? well we are going to create a very cool compilation for them and hopefully when you see the 1% logo on any product you know that that could be your small help to the environment for buying it. check below to see what 1% is about:

"To be perfectly honest, it’s not about us. It’s about businesses recognizing that industry and ecology are inherently connected. It’s about realizing the positive effects of connecting businesses, consumers and nonprofits through philanthropy. And it’s about understanding that the true cost of doing business can be mitigated by a simple pledge to the planet.

Since 2002, 1% For The Planet has inspired members of the business community to contribute 1% of sales to environmental groups around the world. In return, this growing alliance of companies is given the opportunity not only to see their self-worth rise, but their net worth climb as well."

pretty darn cool if you ask me! their site is pretty amazing as well and I would urge you all to check it out ASAP! in an effort to make that as easy as possible...
